Young Gifted and Caregiving – A Series
Young caregiver shares her journey of caregiving while in college. Elaine Jessica Tamargo is a PhD Candidate in UCLA’s Higher Education and Organizational Change program. Her past work as a K-12 educator and as a career counselor for students in higher education have informed her research investigating the sociocultural influences related to career decision-making. Besides research, Elaine also works on campus as the Senior Graduate Career Consultant for UCLA Graduate Career Services and she teaches a campus-wide pedagogy training course for graduate students. Elaine became a part-time caregiver in 2018, just a few months after beginning her doctorate program. Her experience balancing caregiving responsibilities and graduate school have inspired her to advocate for better resources for other student caregivers.
