Why stretching is important

With Todd Nunally and Traci Haines.
Air Date: June 18, 2020 10:00 am ET
In this episode Host Beth, along with special guests Todd Nunnally & Traci Haines talk about how stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.

Meet Your Hosts Beth and Dr. Scott Clitheroe

Meet Beth

Beth Sims

Hello there and welcome to my little part of A Healthier View!!

When I was a kid I was encouraged to do things that made me happy. Aside from turning me into someone who doesn’t like to do the dishes; it also made me question, what actually makes me happy? And that is the foundation on how I live my life: I seek my passion, refuse to settle, build the life I want to live. And most importantly pray and put God first, always!!!

I went to Purdue University and am now a health and wellness professional in the corporate world. If you had told me fifteen years ago that I would be speaking in front of large groups of people I would have cried and laughed at the same time. But that is exactly how I prefer to live my life: facing my fears head-on, challenging myself and every step of the way making sure I believe that my life is worthy of greater things.

I love dogs (especially pugs), hoodies, Raggedy Ann dolls, The Indianapolis Colts, and wide views of the mountains.  I have amazing friends whom I am fiercely protective of and will run in any direction with them. I dislike heavy metal music, people selling themselves short and loud gum chewers.

I find happiness through appreciating my life and the love God has given me; I know that He’s given me this chance to tell my story and help others in any way I can. I keep it real, I know the struggles life can throw your way and I feel like it is a blessing to be able to help anyone who wants to put in the effort.

When I’m not being a health & wellness manager, you can find me hiking, biking, doing charity work, watching Joaquin Phoenix movies, helping others achieve optimal health, walking barefoot on the grass, or jumping in a river at 6 AM …because if you aren’t jumping in a river at 6 AM, you’re just crazy.

That’s me in a nutshell; was a goofy kid, went to college, found a gig in Corporate America & grew roots, I love the Lord and I found my passion.

Don’t be afraid to drop me a note in the comments or shoot me an email at ahealthierviewpodcast@up2meradio.com I hope to share ideas with the healthier view audience and keep active for as long as these legs will carry me.

I’m glad you’re here.

Meet Co-Host Dr. Scott Clitheroe

Co-Host Dr. Scott Clitheroe

My story begins in Houston Texas where I was born into a happy, loving family. I am the youngest of 3 kids to wonderful parents. My mom was a stay-at-home mom who was always there for us as we pursued our goals. My dad was a successful dentist who was very popular with his patients and colleagues. From them, I learned the beauty of selfless, unconditional love and the value of hard work and perseverance.

Though my brother and sister pursued dentistry like our dad, I was interested in medicine from a young age. One of my heroes growing up was my pediatrician. His kindness and easy-going confidence impacted me from a young age. He inspired me to pursue a life in medicine.

My college experience at The University of Texas in Austin was fantastic. I met and made lifelong friends. I majored in biology/premed. I was also a cheerleader. I realized the importance of exercise in my life during these years. It was not only beneficial to my body, but also my mind and spirit.

Medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston was a challenging four years. I’d never worked so hard in my life. I made more amazing friends that inspired me and kept me going through the challenges.

Internal medicine training was completed at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. There, I worked long hours training to become an internist that could handle the complex patient. “The Land of Enchantment”, as New Mexico is also known, allowed me to experience the world of alternative and complementary medicine for the first time. The influence of the Native American culture was an amazing addition to my education. It was here that I realized that the mind-body connection was so important to a person’s overall health.

Since the late 90’s, I’ve practiced hospital medicine in Austin, Texas. Over the years, I have realized that, although I enjoy treating very ill patients in the hospital, I also enjoy helping folks get healthier and stay out of the hospital! In addition to being a hospitalist, I am also the medical director for a volunteer clinic for refugees. I also am a medical director for a local hospice. I have been involved in occupational telemedicine. It was here that I was fortunate to meet Beth and dive even more into the world of wellness. She has taught me a ton and also inspired me with her passion for promoting healthy living.

In my spare time, I love being a husband to a wonderful wife and father to 3 amazing kids. I love to run and swim. I enjoy downhill skiing, fishing, and boating.
