The Food Is Medicine Approach of Functional Medicine
In this episode of To Your Health, Host Beth Sims and Guest Co-Host Jennifer Netherby speak with Dr. Jay Benson of Aspen Health about how and why he practices functional medicine and his approach to different food and lifestyle factors that affect our health. Dr. Benson shares what we all need for a healthy diet and why it’s so hard to make diet changes even when we really want to (It’s not you — it’s how our brains are designed!) Dr. Benson explains what tests can be beneficial for getting a fuller picture of your health and some great tips we can all use to make healthy lifestyle improvements.
Dr. Benson is Board Certified in family medicine with clinical experience working with individuals with a wide variety of illnesses. He graduates from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his residency training at Hunterdon Medical Center in New Jersey. He is passionate about prevention and optimizing health in individuals and enjoys teaching. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
